What is Unique?
Our programs are client centered. We collaborate closely with the client and family to design each person's program individually. Program goals and activities are arranged to respect individual needs and interests. We do not try to fit the person into the program. Rather we try to fit the program to the person.
The quality of staff is exceptionally high. In terms of training, experience, and commitment to the work this quality extends to every member of a client's team, from the psychotherapist in the office to the team counselor on a basic attendance shift in the client's home.
Clients in our residential programs live in apartments within the surrounding community. A Windhorse residence is usually a private apartment shared with a live-in staff housemate near the center of a diverse and lively small city. The activities of each program are woven into the fabric of real world social life.
We often see the client's family as integral to the recovery process. Family members can be included as collaborators in treatment and as full community members. A focus of treatment is to enhance client-family connections, and to offer skills that improve the overall health of the family. A family coordinator leads a family support program that provides seminars, workshops, and consultation.
Our focus extends beyond symptoms to encompass all aspects of the person's situation. We attend to the environmental, physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual well-being of the whole person, working towards integration and balance. The goal of our integrative approach to medicine is to optimize medication regimes within the context of other health enhancing practices such as good nutrition, stress reduction, rest and exercise.
