San Luis Obispo

San Luis Obispo, known locally as San Luis, is situated on the central coast of California, about halfway between Los Angeles and San Francisco.  It is one of California’s oldest communities, with a beautiful downtown shopping and park area, and the Mission building surrounded by neighborhoods of bungalows and small apartment complexes.

San Luis Obispo experiences a Mediterranean climate with warm sunny summer days and about 50 days of rain per year. California Polytechnic State University is located here, with the ocean 11 miles away and the hills and San Lucia Mountains to the east.

There is a weekly farmer’s market in town, an active bike trail network (SLO has been designated as a bicycle friendly community with bike lanes and a multistory bicycle parking structure downtown). There is a local bus line, a stop for the coastal Amtrak train, and a regional airport with private and commercial air service to several major cities.
